Willem Dafoe,now a three-time Oscar nominee, has a new outlook on awards season.
As he explains to EW over the phone, Theres more outlets, theres more award shows.
Its just much more complicated.

And its a movie [that] resonates with people, and they responded to my performance.
He also thought ofPrince, the films now-7-year-old star, when the nominations rolled out.
Shes really great in the movie, he remarks.
But shes [an] uncommonly intelligent and talented 7-year-old and I really liked working with her.
But all of that is out of his control, Dafoe acknowledges.
To that end, hes happy to let the awards season cards fall where they may.
