Wednesdays episode will test Frankie in new ways when Wills cover is blown and hes captured.

Thats something her character struggles with.

Shes always been a lone wolf; shes worked alone.

She doesnt talk about her feelings; shes the complete opposite of Will.

The episode brings its fair share of challenges for Will as well.

Television for the past dozen years or so has become like the politics in this country, he muses.

Youre either a drama or youre a comedy; youre Republican or Democrat.

Theres nothing in between.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: This week Will is in a pretty tight spot.

Theres a great outcome to their relationship in this episode.

Or would Jai take objection to that?Thats exactly the role that he has been put in.

When we were thinking of that character, that is definitely who we had in mind James Bonds Q. Wills emotional availability is annoying to Frankie.

Will it be similarly annoying to his captors?

[Laughs] If we had longer, they would definitely get tired of it.

Because he would break them down.

But we didnt explore that part of it.

This was more a Wills in trouble hows he going to help himself?

And then hows the team going to figure out how to follow Frankie and help Will?

Will has such a unique balance between action star and intense emotionality.

He is not what you would expect when you hear FBI team leader, international spy.

For me, that trope seemed a little dated.

In this day and age, at least, [its] not very relatable.

Its actually easier for me to play Will the way hes written.

Jake Ballard, my character onScandal, was much more what youd expect Will to be.

Not a big sense of humor.

The standard trope of what you would think an action hero would be.

Will we see more of that this season?Yes.

I know that we shot a bunch of stuff that really leaned into that side of Will.

Thats what I love about him.

Thats really the foundation of the show.

Production is based in Prague, and youve gone to other locations around Europe.

Can you tease any more really exciting places to come this season? You mentioned James Bond earlier.

We actually got to go to Austria and shoot this incredible action ski sequence in the Alps.

So thats going to be the very final episode.

element here will there be any decisive steps forward this season? Are you asking me will they-wont they?

I think thats what youre asking me.

[Laughs]

Just will they?

even a little bit?Weve seen will they, wont they?

before, whether itsFriendsorCastleorMoonlighting.Theres a tension thats necessary when playing these kind of roles on these kind of shows.

We dont necessarily want to be a will they, wont they?

although thats built into the DNA of a show like this.

But the dynamic between these two characters is something we hit on every episode.

In another, she believes Wills the one for her and then he does something that screws it up.
