Green Bookdirector Peter Farrelly didnt watch theGolden Globe nominations on Thursday morning.

I didnt want to jinx it by watching it, he says.

Below, Farrelly delves deeper into the criticism and the films Golden Globes nods.

When we started showing it around, I started realizing, Oh, this isthatkind of movie.

Toronto [International Film Festival] wasthe turning point.

Thats where we realized we had something real special.

When I looked at the group of directors Im with… thats quite a line up.

Its just nice to be included with them, particularly Spike [Lee].

Spike is a national treasure.

To be on a list with him makes me really happy.

Now, the film has been getting criticized for telling a white savior narrative.

Whats your response to that?

We wanted to avoid it, and personally, I think we did.

I dont think we fall into any of those tropes.

Im glad, though, that theres discussion about race.

I like that theres discussion about all this.

I think anytime there is, its a good thing.
