Her ideas are dangerous, but we see how they (and the dramatics they create) fuel her....

But the scene then takes a turn: He passes out, and dies there on the spot. She’s still so defeated. “What the f is wrong with you?” Credit: George Kraychyk/Hulu June asks her, after gushing that Moira made it to Canada. Emily barely musters a response. It’s time." Suddenly, however, Lydia calls Serena into the bedroomand informs her it’s a false labor. If only it were really a win for June....

Both of them appear in their element; it’s enjoyable, even, for us to watch. And indeed, Serena does get a little too comfortable with her rebellion. The “new” Serena pops out again. “There might be something that could help,” she tells June, determined. “It might mean bending the law.” She asks June for her opinion, and she inevitably assents....

June is where we left her last week: completely defeated. It’s telling that we get no voiceover in this episode. June has been demeaned so significantly that she can’t bring herself to even think for herself. And the mood, it’s no secret even to Serena, is insufferably grim....

June being summoned under mysterious circumstances, then, doesn’t exactly portend good things. (Nick, ever the loyal driver, is also along for the trip.) “Offred, I’ve given it some thought,” she says. Five hours into season 3, another episode echoes that ending. season 3 (premiering June 5 on Hulu) wont do much to restore your confidence in that decision. There wont be another chance, you know that? Youre never getting out youre going to fing die here. In the wake of Nicholes kidnapping, meanwhile, things are tense between Commander Waterford and Serena Joy. We can help each other, whispers June, urgent and persuasive....
