The scene quickly turns violent when Derek pulls a gun, injuring Sutherland and killing Joanna.
EW spoke with Corneliussen about Joannas demise and what it was like filming such an intense moment.
So were you pissed?STEPHANIE CORNELIUSSEN:I mean, of course I was pissed.
I think its a natural reaction, right?
But I wasnt so pissed as I was sad.
In a sense, its sort of like a breakup.
But yeah, I was a little pissed [laughs].
How did you find out?
[Creator Sam Esmail] called me personally and told me what was going to happen.
We went on that creative journey together.
I think it was very hard for him to let her go and to see her go.
I think it was tough for him to let it go.
We had a heartfelt conversation about it, and he explained it to me.
Ive said this so many times, but I respect Sam so much as a creative visionary.
If he thinks thats the right way to go, Im on board with that.
Props to the props department, because they actually cut a car in half just to shoot this.
There was at least a third of the car missing.
We had a blast that day.
Weirdly enough, it was a really fun thing to shoot.
The show circles back to the past often.
It does seem like theres an opportunity for Joanna to reappear.
Any comment?I cant confirm or debunk anything, obviously.
But I can say that I personally would always be open to returning to the show.
I really, honestly think that Ive been extremely lucky with my first big break and first big production.
Id come back no matter what.
