Jordan is set to executive-produce and star in ‘Raising Dion’

Netflix has ordered a new Michael B. Jordan superhero series.

The streaming service has officially picked up 10 episodes of the high-concept family dramaRaising Dion, which originated as a short film directed by Dennis Liu and focuses on single mother Nicole Reese and her relationship with her young son, Dion, after he begins to exhibit magical and supernatural abilities.

Jordan plays Nicoles late husband Mark and will executive-produce the series alongside showrunner Carol Barbee (UnREAL) and director Liu.

I started this project many years ago because I wanted to see more diverse representation on film and television and Im excited to partner with Netflix and MACRO, who I know shares that commitment, Liu said in a statement.

More than ever, we need more stories told from different points of view and my hope withRaising Dionis to create a cinematic experience for all families that will lift your spirits and make you laugh and cry.

Jordan, whos recently broken out in movies such asFruitvale StationandCreed, first found success for his work in television specifically for scene-stealing turns onThe Wire,Friday Night Lights, andParenthood.

Hes set to star in the HBO Movies adaptation ofFahrenheit 451, opposite Michael Shannon and directed by Ramin Bahrani, and is also executive-producing an upcoming OWN drama series created by Oscar winner Tarell Alvin McCraney (Moonlight).
