Youve previously heard theGame of Thronesprequel series is set 10,000 years before the events inGame of Thrones.
But author George R.R.
Martin is correcting that figure in anew EW interview about his bookon the Targaryen dynastyFire and Blood.
The HBO prequel, tentatively titledThe Long Night, is actually set only 5,000 years before the events inGoT.
Westeros is a very different place.
Theres no Kings Landing.
Theres no Iron Throne.
The Valyrians tame the dragons with magic, which gives them the means to gain influence over the area.
The Valyrian Freehold is established.
Of course, this doesnt definitively mean the show if greenlit to series willneverinclude a dragon.
But the shows initial setting is apparently a pre-Targaryen and dragon-free world.
Martins original idea forGame of Thrones, by and by, was a fantasy world without any dragons whatsoever.
I did consider in the very early stages not having the dragons in there, Martinhas previously said.
I went back and forth.
And I think it was the right call.
