The universe will surprise you…
This seasons finale, The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos, checks a lot of boxes.

High stakes where the entire fate of the universe is at risk!
On that front, Ranskoor Av Kolos delivers.
(Which is metal as hell.)
Robert Baratheon fromGame of Thrones) doesnt know why hes there, or even what his own name is.
Thats right: Everyones least favorite interstellar dentist is back.
And surprise, surprise, his next target is Earth.
Tzim-Sha wasnt particularly memorable the first time around, which dulls the impact of his return.
Its unclear exactly what Tzim-Shas thing is…
I do love the idea of the Doctors mercy being her own downfall.
Tzim-Sha has been stewing for more than 3,000 years, stranded at the Doctors hand.
In that time, hes amassed unspeakable power and caused countless deaths.
Thats fine, but itd be nice to have something a little more epic for the season finale.
This weeks emphasis on revenge feels like tonal whiplash, but to be fair, grief is messy.
Graham is allowed to accept his wifes death while still longing for justice.
Nothing like a trip through time and space to help strengthen the bond between family members.
Yaz, Graham, and Ryan begrudgingly accept the Doctors repeated attempts to call them fam.
None of us know for sure whats out there, she says.
Thats why we keep looking.
The universe will surprise you… constantly.
And for all its strengths and weaknesses, this season ofDoctor Whohas delivered some delightful surprises.
Heres to many more.
Odds and ends
