“It was pretty heavy,” says Lee.

“My mother passed away [in 2013], and we were never able to mend the fence.
“I kinda didn’t want that in there.
I’m not proud of it.
But it’s real and it happens to people,” Lee says.
“We didn’t hide it when it was in the book.
“There is a lot of horrible behavior in the book…. No, we weren’t choirboys.
Neither was anybody else.”
