Colbert rips into 'evil' policy separating immigrant families: 'It's just plain wrong'

The CBS late-night host began by noting that Fathers Day is this weekend.

But this story is different, because this is the conversation everybody should be having.

Now if that sounds evil, then good news your ears are working, he said.

Heres the bad news.

We will take your children away from you with no guarantee youll see them again.

That is using cruelty as a deterrent.

The other part is just institutional racism, Colbert added.

Clearly, no decent human being could defend that, said Colbert.

So [Attorney General] Jeff Sessions did.

He then turned his attention to Sessions using a Bible passage to justify the policy.

Orderly and lawful processes are good in themselves.

Colbert, a practicing Catholic, took issue with that line of defense.

Hey, dont bring God into this.

First, of all I dont think God picked you because I dont worship Vladimir Putin, he said.

Love does no harm to a neighbor.

Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
