ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY:Chriscomes from the perspective of Chris.
I loved working around the idea of being a powerful woman by actually steering away from patriarchal codes.
For me, a macho [man] is also really feminine in a way.

Gendered performance is just constant theater.
So Chris has a more defiant, fun energy.
Youre repainting these ideas with a queer brush. Its almost campy, because its quite kitsch.
Its like a weird reinterpretation of that classic, monumental, masculine, capitalist figure.
I saw performance and theater everywhere, people choosing to perform such a precise identity.
Im deflecting what it means to expose myself and its wonderful.
Its like theyre angry at me because Im being a slight virus, and Im enjoying that very much.
Its kind of like the beginning of a question they dont really want to address.
You are entering a world of doubts.
For me those doubts are erotic and interesting, but for some people its purely scary.
When there are lists made like, Queer Artists to Watch, were kind of boxed in again…. What were you seeking to liberate yourself from, and what is Chris angry about? Its Slim Shady-angry.
Yes, Im dropping an Eminem reference.
Because out of the anger comes a weird punch in of fun and ecstasy I hadnt experienced before.
Its easy to be infuriated because youre constantly clustered by misogyny.
Chris is just using anger as a fuel for something more generous.
The lyrics sound deceptively fun, but if you dive into it, its weird and slightly creepy.
So I wanted to push it even further in the second album.
Im a huge pop music lover.
I do love the immediacy, the organic fever that happens when a pop track is so infectious.
I love when I dive into lyrics that give me human complexity and intricate narrative.
Lets make more Trojan horses, actually, lets complicate things but also be inescapable pop in the production.
The song is very much about the idea of that permanence of that wound.
Even though Im way more empowered and confident as a woman, sometimes it just wakes up.
Its all part of the same narrative ofChris.
