Franklin married her first husband, Ted White, in 1961 at age 19.

They had one son, Ted White Jr., and divorced in 1969, following reports of domestic abuse.

Franklin was honored in 2001 at theVH1 Divas 2001: The One and Only Aretha Franklintribute.
