When I got to set, I felt like such a fan.
I tried to read a couple pages before bed.
I needed to get up early the next morning, but I ended up reading the whole thing.

[My character] is fascinating: so lonely, desperate, needing, and wanting.
Yorgos wrote exactly how he wanted me to [perform] it in the script.
It says very specific actions, like matter of fact and other adjectives.
That was a challenge for me, because I tend to be very emotional and expressive.
I dont think hedidntwant that, but there was an undertone of this character not being very dramatic.
You found such a palpable tone.
Howd you and Colin prepare?We didnt really prepare!
I met him there for a second, and all these years later I met him again on set.
Yorgos films have such a distinct style.
Does his directorial approach match?Hes an absolute artist, even in the way he photographs.
Then I [realized], oh, hes also the on-set photographer!
Hes doing the art for his film!
Hes telling the story as he wants to tell it.
Its also amazing where he chooses to put the camera.
For the most part, you know where that cameras going to be.
But for him, he put it in the most interesting places.
I didnt know what we were doing.
Hows his direction in those moments?Hes not unlike all great directors.
At first I felt a little shy because Im so in love with his work.
I was thinking,hes not telling me anything, why isnt he telling me anything!
?So, I went over to him and asked, Is this okay?
He was like, Yeah, Id tell you if there was anything you needed to do differently.
Like, ofcoursehe would.
Duh, duh, duh!
Hes a great director!
He also had the idea of me grabbing Colins hand [and putting it in my mouth].
[Laughs]
Its not like everyones out there doing it!

But youre a vegan!
Did this feel like a betrayal of veganism?Well, Im awoman, Idoput flesh in my mouth.
So its not so crazy!
But, yeah, I guess that would be a funny vegan thing.
Its a sexual activity [for my character]; shes nottryingto eat him, shewantsto eat him.
She wants to eat him up!
